Woodstock
Describe the congregation’s History.
Woodstock Reformed Presbyterian Church in Belfast is a replant of the original Woodstock RPC congregation. Though the previous work had ended, God in His providence has seen fit to re-establish a witness in this area through this new effort, which continues to grow steadily. Worship and ministry take place in the original church building on the Woodstock Road.
Describe the Congregation.
Woodstock RPC is a small but vibrant congregation. Weekly attendance varies depending on visitors, with a usual turnout of 20-30 people. This includes a mix of individuals and families, along with several children who bring great joy and energy to our church life.
We are encouraged by the steady stream of visitors, some of whom come for a short while, others who remain longer. We trust God to work in the hearts of all who enter our doors, even if only briefly.
Describe the Session.
Our congregation is shepherded by our minister and elders. We are thankful for the leadership provided by these men, whose pastoral care and gospel preaching have been a constant encouragement. Please continue to pray that they would be strengthened and upheld in their calling.
Describe the Building.
Though the building is older and the upstairs is currently unusable, the ground floor has been adapted well for our needs. The main meeting area is large, open, and flexible, making it ideal not only for regular worship but also for special events and outreach. It provides a warm and accessible environment for fellowship before and after services. Our building is also accessible, with a ramp at the entrance and an accessible bathroom located in the entrance foyer.
Describe the Area.
Woodstock RPC is located on the busy Woodstock Road in East Belfast. Though there are several churches in the area, the spiritual need remains great. Over 6,500 people live in the immediate vicinity, with many more in the surrounding neighbourhoods. We are strategically placed on a road with high foot traffic, giving us excellent opportunities for outreach and engagement with passers-by. We long to see a greater gospel impact among our neighbours.
Describe an average Sabbath.
We meet twice every Lord’s Day for worship: morning service at 11:30 am and evening service at 6:30 pm. After evening worship, we gather for a short time of prayer together. These services are the heart of our week, focused on reverent worship, expository preaching, and joyful fellowship.
Occasionally, we hold church lunches which provide additional opportunities for extended fellowship. These meals are always a source of encouragement and allow us to deepen relationships within the congregation and with visitors.
Describe an average Week.
Midweek Bible study and prayer meeting take place on Tuesday evenings at 8:00 pm. These gatherings are essential for the spiritual health of the congregation, allowing us to grow together in our understanding of Scripture and to bring our needs before the Lord in prayer.
Describe the congregation’s Evangelism.
On Fridays, we engage in street outreach directly outside the church. We set up a table offering free items—generously donated—and often serve tea and coffee. This leads to natural conversations with members of the local community, allowing us to share the hope of the gospel.
Describe the congregation’s Online Presence.
In addition to in-person outreach, we livestream our services via Facebook. This allows people who might not yet attend in person to hear the Word of God and become familiar with the church. We pray that this digital ministry will continue to bear fruit, especially among those in our immediate area.
Describe the congregation’s recent Challenges.
As a small replant, challenges remain. With a modest number of members, there is a constant need for prayer, labourers, and wisdom in resource use. Additionally, as with many congregations, reaching and retaining new people, especially in the city, can be challenging.
What can we Pray for?
Give thanks or the faithful ministry of our minister and elders, may they be encouraged in their service.
Give thanks for the many opportunities for outreach that our city location provides.
Pray that God would raise up more workers to join us in the mission field of East Belfast.
Pray for the children of the congregation, that they would grow to love the Lord and be a witness in their schools and friendships.
